BDEW Web-API-Services:

All BDEW Web API services from a single source: MaLo ID query, control commands, control command information, and directory service.

Together with the German encryption specialist MTG, DARZ delivers a complete suite of services based on the BDEW Web API standard. The energy@Web API services are currently available for identifiers API0001, API0002, and API0003 — including a flexible directory service that can also be used independently if needed. Additional Web API services will be added in the future, ensuring all offerings are seamlessly integrated and provided from one trusted source.

  • Fast 24h Supplier Switch: Fully compliant with BK6-22-024 & BK6-22-128 regulations.

  • Secure Switching Commands: Transmit commands to metering point operators in accordance with §14a EnWG.

  • MaLo-ID & Directory Queries: Automate secure queries and communication parameter exchange.

  • Seamless Integration: Simple API connects easily to ERP systems and network control centers.

energy@Web API Services – Web API solutions for energy suppliers, grid operators, and metering service providers

Our Web API Services consist of the following functional modules:

In the energy market, the various market roles — supplier (LF), grid operator (NB), and metering point operator (MSB) — each perform different tasks. Every role is assigned a unique market partner ID (MP-ID), which serves as a key identifier for secure and standardized data exchange. To ensure that legal requirements and market processes are correctly implemented, each market role requires one or more Web API services.

  • API0001Transmission of control commands
From the supplier (LF) to the metering point operator (MSB), or from the grid operator (NB) to the MSB, in accordance with the specifications of the Universal Processes (BK6-22-128)
  • API0002Feedback on execution of control commands
Notification to the grid operator (NB) or transmission system operator (ÜNB) confirming successful execution of a control command by the supplier (LF)
  • API0003MaLo ID query
Exchange between grid operator (NB) and supplier (LF) as part of the 24-hour supplier switch (LFW)
  • Directory Service Query according to BDEW Web API
Automated provision and retrieval of communication parameters for secure, standardized data exchange between market partners
  • Directory Service
Independent service that resolves third-party requests to web services
  • Maximum security and compliance
Operation within DARZ’s multiple-certified data center in Germany ensures the highest levels of data protection and regulatory compliance
  • API000“X” – Expansion perspective
Our platform continues to grow: additional web services with new API identifiers (e.g., for emerging market processes) will be added and made available centrally in due course.

Why a single-source solution is your best choice

Eliminate duplicate costs and reduce complexity by using a single directory service.

The legislator allows only one MP-ID per market role. However, if multiple valid EMT.API certificates with different URIs exist, additional directory services and configurations become mandatory.

The most efficient and fully compliant solution is therefore to book all required Web API services — current and future — directly through DARZ. This eliminates redundant directory services and complex multiple configurations. Rely on MTG’s innovative technology and DARZ’s certified infrastructure for a secure and streamlined solution.

Looking for an additional Web API service?

You can combine or switch — it’s entirely flexible.

Multiple providers automatically create more effort and additional costs.
Nevertheless, running multiple Web API services in parallel with us is possible. Some companies, for example, rely on their own solutions and want to keep them but require an additional service for transmitting control commands. In such cases, you can book the missing service directly from us. We ensure that operations run smoothly and in compliance with regulations.

Solution for combined operation:

  • If a second Web API service with its own directory service is used alongside DARZ (e.g., API0003), an additional directory service must be operated within DARZ, and the external service must be integrated there.
  • At the same time, it is necessary that the service booked with DARZ is also registered in the respective directory service of the third-party provider.

Solution for provider switching:

Are you dissatisfied with the performance or costs of your current provider?
Switching your Web API services to DARZ is possible at any time — safely, efficiently, and with personal support. We provide a test environment with SM-Test PKI integration, allowing you to implement and test your application. Afterwards, new EMT certificates are requested and existing certificates are blocked as part of the switching process.

With DARZ and MTG, you have experienced partners at your side: we guide you through every step, ensure transparent processes, and guarantee that your switch is smooth, compliant, and uninterrupted.

Simplify EMT registration — fully compliant with DARZ

Smart Meter PKI (EMT.API) registration may seem complicated — with security rules, certificate requests, and renewals. DARZ simplifies the process by managing most of these tasks on your behalf.

As a customer, only an initial registration is required — all subsequent steps are handled by DARZ as part of the energy@Web API services. This saves you time, effort, and helps avoid potential errors.

DARZ ensures compliance with security policies (SM-PKI Policy), manages certificate requests, issuance, configuration, integration, and timely renewal. Throughout the entire process, you have a dedicated contact person who ensures secure and smooth handling. Your certificates are therefore always available on time and fully compliant — without the need for you to manage every individual step in detail.

DARZ.CA: The easy way to the right certificates

Valid EMT.API certificates issued by an authorized Sub-Certification Authority (Sub-CA) are required to use the BDEW Web API. These certificates ensure encrypted communication and reliable authentication — key prerequisites for meeting the new regulatory requirements.

With DARZ.CA, a certified Sub-CA of the Smart Meter PKI according to BSI TR-03145, you receive exactly the certificates you need for the 24-hour supplier switch and the secure transmission of control commands to the metering point operator (MSB). Our solutions are perfectly aligned with the energy@Web API services, enabling seamless integration into your processes. Choose a solution that combines security, reliability, and ease of use.
